Our Story
Once a home for the Sisters of Good Shepherd, surrounded by the Collingwood Children’s Farm and Yarra Bend Park, the Abbotsford Convent with its 11 magnificent buildings is an extraordinary place and is becoming an important art, educational and cultural precinct in Melbourne.
Within these historic grounds the Convent Bakery was established and has become a renowned institution within the Abbotsford Convent precinct serving locals and visitors with freshly baked goods…
Nestled within the wall of the Convent Annexe or Kitchen wing are two magnificent wood fired mansory ovens built in 1901. Amazingly it is in these ovens that the Convent Bakery uses for Weekend Bread classes that produce a unique variety of old fashioned wood fired bread.
Heritage, great service and wonderful food.
Abbotsford Convent grounds are surrounded by magnificent gardens and historical architecture. The heritage site today hosts many events and markets on weekends.
Authentic, family atmosphere and inclusive.
Recently renovated to bring a more contemporary feel, The Convent Bakery retains its old world charm, offering breakfast, lunch, alcohol license, functions and bread-making classes.
Coffee beans are sourced from around the world, fair trade, certified organic and roasted on-site.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Convent Bakery!
